Mortgage and Divorce Linked to Unwanted Car Leases

In South Florida, both high mortgages and divorces have become the reasons many are trying to eliminated car lease contracts. LeaseTrader.com, a marketplace for lease transfers, has found that a growing number of people are trying to get rid of car leases they could no longer afford. South Florida Business Journal has more:

Growing financial pressures of underwater mortgages and life changes from divorce are the two biggest reasons many escape from an unwanted car lease contract, according to data from LeaseTrader.com.

An online marketplace for car lease transfers, LeaseTrader on Monday revealed information it accumulated during the fourth quarter of 2009, when it analyzed reasons why a growing number of South Florida drivers use the marketplace to escape a car lease they could no longer afford.

LeaseTrader says South Florida drivers use its services to find credit-qualified individuals anywhere in the country to take over their remaining contract.

Arizona to Vote on Divorce Wait

Arizona currently has a 60 waiting period for court action on a new divorce application, which may be lengthened soon. The Arizona House is set to vote on a bill that would make the waiting time up to 120 days for some Arizonans. KSWT has more:

PHOENIX (AP) – The Arizona House is scheduled to vote on a bill that would make some Arizonans wait longer before getting divorced.

The House has scheduled a final vote for Tuesday.

Arizona law currently requires a 60-day waiting period for court action on a divorce application.

The bill sponsored by Phoenix Republican Rep. Nancy Barto would allow either party in a divorce to request an extension of the waiting period up to 120 days. The divorce could continue without delay if one party establishes “good cause” for doing so. Continue reading
